L'origine di questo castello risale al 1160, con tracce di ruderi di epoca romana. I Longobardi eressero una torre di avvistamento, poi i Franchi e infine i Normanni lo fortificarono. Secondo una tradizione popolare nel corso del XVIII secolo uno degli ultimi esponenti della famiglia Corvo-De Corvis si sarebbe trasferito dalla Corte di Napoli ai suoi possedimenti di Roccascalegna, dove avrebbe cercato di ripristinare lo Ius primæ noctis. Ciò avrebbe naturalmente suscitato una ribellione tra i suoi sudditi, e uno sposo, non disposto a cedere alla barbara usanza, mascheratosi da donna si sarebbe nottetempo introdotto nel Castello e sostituito alla consorte, uccidendo il feudatario. 23-ago-2015

The origin of this castle dates back to 1160, with traces of remains from Roman times. The Longobards erected a watchtower, then the Franks and finally the Normans fortified it. According to a popular tradition in the eighteenth century, one of the last members of the family Crow-De Corvis would be transferred from the Court of Naples to his possessions of Roccascalegna, where he tried to restore the droit de seigneur. This would have naturally sparked a rebellion among his subjects, and a husband, not willing to give in to the barbaric practice, disguised as a woman would be introduced overnight in the Castle and replaced to the wife, killing the overlord.
